Our story

The London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC) was established in August 2004, by four clinicians who originally worked within the NHS at the same London hospital. They ran a successful orthotic department that gained a worldwide reputation as a centre of excellence in the field of rehabilitation.

While three of the founding clinicians are still working for LOC, the team has expanded to eight clinicians, nine full-time admin staff and eight highly skilled orthotic technicians.

All of our clinicians are fully qualified professionals and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and are members of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO). As such, we adhere to a strict code of conduct and ethics, as laid down by BAPO.

The clinical needs of our patients are always our first priority, so we can ensure the highest level of clinical care is provided.

“We believe that orthotics are not a product that’s handed over to a patient to use, but a powerful tool to help in their treatment and rehabilitation.”

Sam Walmsley, Director and Senior Orthotist

Our approach to bespoke orthotic treatment

Being a truly independent clinic allows us to prescribe the orthotics we believe are most suitable for our patients. That means we’re not limited by a specific corporate range, unlike some of our competitors.

We search the world for the most innovative and evidence-based orthotic solutions to offer our patients.

We provide bespoke orthotic treatments for a wide range of adult and paediatric conditions and are passionate about how orthotics can change and improve lives.

Our principles

1. We’re passionate about orthotics and their life-changing impact

We believe in the power of orthotics to make a real difference. Our commitment to innovation, precision, and patient-first care means we’re always striving to improve outcomes and enhance lives.

2. We listen and collaborate on treatment goals

Every patient is unique, and so is their journey with orthotics. We take the time to understand your needs, concerns, and aspirations, working with you to set realistic and achievable treatment goals.

3. We focus on care, not sales

We’re here to treat patients, not to sell products. Every orthotic we provide is part of a carefully considered treatment plan designed to improve movement, function, and quality of life.

4. We’re here to provide clear, honest information

Transparency is key. We explain not only what our treatments can achieve but also their limitations, ensuring you have all the facts before making any decisions.

5. We welcome direct communication with our clinicians

If you or your child ever have concerns about treatment, we encourage open and direct communication with our expert clinicians. Your confidence and comfort in the process are our priority.

  1. Evidence-based treatment

We believe in the power of orthotics to change lives. That’s why we provide treatments backed by peer-reviewed research, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.

  2. Excellent clinical care and expertise

We've been providing excellent orthotic care since 2004 with our HCPC- and BAPO-registered clinicians combining medical expertise with truly personalised care. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

  3. In-house manufacturing

Precision matters. That’s why we manufacture the majority of our orthotics on-site from our workshop in Kingston. Allowing us to maintain exacting quality control and fine-tune our orthotics to each patient’s unique needs.

  4. Outcomes and measurement

Real results, measured and tracked. We use objective pre and post-treatment assessments to ensure our treatments are delivering tangible improvements.
