LOC has opened a clinic in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Learn more

Colonel (Rtd) Richard P. Gray OBE was treated by Alan Hews at LOC having suffered a brain injury secondary to a fall leaving him with right-sided hemiparesis.

A history of a hip replacement had led to a leg length discrepancy and there was muscle weakness over the hip, knee and ankle. The brief was to facilitate his rehabilitation by preventing collapsing of the leg, allowing freedom of movement to strengthen his muscles and accommodate the leg length difference. He was cast and fitted with a knee ankle foot orthosis (KAFO) with a selectable locking mechanism at the knee and selectable position ankle joints.

His wife Fiona was delighted with the outcome:

“Richard is walking very well now and is starting to do stairs. He only needed the full leg orthosis for about a month but it was absolutely instrumental in getting him walking. Here is a photo was taken on Remembrance Sunday, last November, when he walked up the steps into the church.”
